Daily Chef - Kensington, London

Daily Chef is required for our client's property in Kensington, with a summer Home in Cap Ferrat, France (The Villa is open at start of July through to the end of August each year), random trips to other properties in Europe might also happen from time to time (Courchevel, Sardinia, Kiev).

The family are based in Western Europe, but members of the family may use the London house, on average, 3 to 5 days a week; while their property in France is “opened” usually in July, and closed at the end of August, and just occasionally in May-June for the occasional weekend/week. It must be noted that during the summer months it is hard to give days off, but time is given in-lieu.

Normally the family travel for Christmas / New Year, meaning house staff are off (but of course this is not guaranteed 100%!). Other Staff employed:       Yes - Estate-manager / 1 Butler / 2 Housekeepers / houseman / driver

Candidates need to be very flexible in terms of working schedule, sometimes the family schedule their routine in advance, but there are occasions when members of the family need to amend their schedule, resulting in last minute changes and short notice-visits, which require the chef to step-in at the last minute. However, everything is done to ensure that the chef is given 2-days off per week.

Working for the clients who use their London home approximately 3-5 days per week (a couple with young and adult children) the primary role of the chef is to prepare and cook healthy, nutritious and balanced meals. The family do enjoy their food, and in addition to well-prepared hearty or rustic dishes, the family do entertain high profile guests, when sophisticated, fine-dining dishes are required.

Hours of employment: When based in London and the house is not occupied - Monday to Friday | 09:00 to 17:00 - to spring clean, inventory, plan menus and research and experiment new dishes etc

When based in London and the house is occupied - Often Friday through to Monday | 8.00 - 22.00 – cooking Breakfast - Lunch & Dinner), the chef generally can take a break in the afternoon

When based with the family in the South of France / or abroad - While the family do go out for meals, while based at the client’s holiday home, the chef will need to be available to cook lunch and dinner 7 days a week. The chef will also need to cook prepare simple meals for staff. This can be a busy period, as the family do entertain occasional houseguests, and invite friends who may be in the region to lunch or dinner. Extra time worked is taken in lieu during the autumn and winter months.

The chef will be required to present menus for approval on a weekly basis, he or she will then need to organise: menu-planning, shopping & food preparation while ensuring that: ingredients are correctly stored, stock is properly monitored, wastage is kept to an absolute minimum, the kitchen is always maintained in a tidy and spotless state and all receipts are properly audited and passed to the office in a correct and timely fashion. 

The successful candidate will have worked in respected hotels or restaurants but must also have recent experience of working in a private home and be able to present excellent written references (which can be verbally verified).

Candidate will also have: Excellent references; A clean driving license; Worked in a high profile household; Excellent knowledge of the rules of etiquette, protocol and good manners; The ability to always remain professional in every circumstance; The ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality; Have a pro-active approach to work; A Clean Driving Licence and Police Record and/or be happy to undergo a DBS Check (a requirement as there are young children in the house).

While it is important that Candidates present the right credentials, the client would also like to emphasis that they wish to find a chef who has a real love and passion for cooking and their profession; An understanding that work in a private home requires a proactive and forward-thinking approach; A friendly and flexible nature.
